Nobody wants an air conditioner to shut down in the middle of the hot summer months. In reality, most repairs are needed during times when air conditioners are run at their maximum. However, most repairs can be avoided with regular cleaning and maintenance of an air conditioner.
Most people cover the basics of air conditioning maintenance, by replacing air filters regularly. Some may even go further and clean and inspect their air conditioner unit and components twice a year. However, even the most diligent home maintenance can miss vital signs that an air conditioner is on the verge of trouble.
A professional service call by a qualified HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) technician can inspect components inside the air conditioner that most people miss, and are qualified to use different techniques and tools to diagnose any issues that may be occurring.
To avoid repairs and maintain a healthy AC, it is a good idea for anyone to have their HVAC system serviced at least once a year for preventative maintenance. Servicing your home’s heating and cooling system regularly is the best way to prevent significant repairs. This article details what HVAC technicians do while servicing a home’s air conditioner.
Setting Up the Service Call
First, it doesn't cost anything to set up a service call through Air Control. When someone in the Northwest Arkansas and surrounding areas schedules a service call with Air Control, a dispatcher will gather information on your home’s system and discuss any issues you are currently experiencing.

An Air Control technician is then scheduled and then sent to the home using a computerized dispatching system. This system also tracks what service was completed at the home and the billing.
You can be sure that all Air Control technicians are properly trained and qualified to perform service on a home HVAC system. All technicians who work for Air Control undergo background checks and are licensed, bonded and insured.
Technicians are already trained before they are hired, but are also required to complete training provided by our preferred AC manufacturer partners on their particular systems. And because we are the preferred HVAC partner for all Sam’s Club and Lowe’s home improvement stores in the area, our technicians must have additional background checks and training.
Air Control technicians are trained and certified to restore home climate and humidity levels, and our team provides industry-best pricing and workmanship guarantees.
What is Included in a Service Call?
When an Air Control technician arrives at your home, they will arrive in an Air Control truck and must first introduce themselves. Air Control does not use subcontractors.
If you have not described your system over the phone when scheduling the service call, you will need to explain any issues you are currently experiencing with your HVAC system. You will also need to show the technician the location of the breaker box and air conditioner condenser unit.
The technician will mainly inspect the outside unit, but will also inspect and test the inside thermostat to ensure it is reading the temperature and operating correctly.
Besides checking the thermostat, during the service call, the technician conducts an overall check of the system, including:
Turning on and off the system to make sure it is operating correctly.
Listening for any noises that may signal an issue.
Inspecting and testing the wiring and connections and ensuring the system is meeting the proper electrical load.
During the service call, the technician will clean, inspect and adjust the following:
Venting system, including checking the ducts
Burners & heat exchangers for corrosion and cracks
Combustion for optimal fuel efficiency
Blower assembly
Electrical system control panels & boards
Thermostat
Clean condenser coil
Clean condensate drain line
Disconnect panel
Measure refrigerant level
The technician will also inspect your system’s vitals, including:
Fuel pressure
Flue draft diverter/motor volts and amps
Blower motor volts and amps
Blower capacitors
Refrigerant for optimal cooling
Compressor contactor
Condenser fan capacitor
Compressor capacitor
Compressor voltage/amperage
Fan motor voltage/amperage
After a Service Call
After the Air Control technician has serviced the air conditioner, they will discuss their inspection results. Your Technician will present to you a checklist showing the results of your system's vital signs. At this time, you have the opportunity to accept or decline any necessary or recommended repairs or replacements.
The Air Control trucks are stocked with standard replacement parts, so most minor repairs or adjustments can be completed on-site at the time of service. However, if any significant repair or missing part is needed, the technician can quickly order the required parts and can schedule an additional appointment on site.
In the case a full air conditioner replacement is required, the technician will set up another time for another Air Control representative to visit the home for an additional diagnosis. In addition, they will discuss the different air conditioner models appropriate for the home, go over the installation process, and set up a time to replace the unit once all parts get delivered to Air Control.
None of the Air Control technicians work on a commission, so costs or repairs are not inflated. After every service call, whether it is a simple inspection, a repair or replacement, both parties will receive a copy of the signed result for their records.

Air Control offers a Tommy's Club membership to avoid having to do the air conditioner maintenance yourself. This membership consists of two service calls a year to check, inspect and clean your home’s HVAC system. It also includes a ten percent discount on needed parts and priority scheduling with no after-hour fees. The membership varies on how many units are installed.
Discounts are also available for senior citizens, veterans, current military, first responders and teachers. Additionally, Air Control purchases large volumes from most of the most popular AC manufacturers.
