preparing your hvac system for fall

September 4, 2020

As summer comes to a close and the fall season approaches, it’s the perfect time to begin preparing your HVAC system for cooler weather. Here are some helpful tips to get you started!

1. Check your air filters

Dirty furnace and air conditioning air filters can prevent your system from heating and cooling your home adequately and efficiently. It’s best to replace your air conditioning filter before shutting down the system, that way it will be ready when it’s time to turn on the system again. It’s best to replace your furnace filter frequently throughout the heating months to ensure your system is working properly as well.

2. Seal air leaks

Sealing windows and doors with caulk and weather-stripping can prevent drafts and decrease energy waste. Leaky ductwork can also be sealed with mastic or aluminum tape.

3. Clean up your outdoor unit

If you have an outdoor unit, check for any debris or damage. Removing debris around the unit will ensure proper air flow and prevent leaves and dirt from getting on the coils or inside the unit. If you find any signs of damage, please give Air Control a call!

4. Check your alarms and detectors

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are essential devices that keep you safe and it is important to replace the batteries with new ones frequently. It is recommended by the U.S. Fire Administration that smoke detectors are replaced every ten years.

5. Schedule a maintenance checkup

Scheduling a tune up with Air Control is the best way to prepare your system for fall. Our qualified technicians thoroughly inspect your HVAC system and make the necessary adjustments to ensure your system is operating at maximum efficiency.
